Dain

Dain

Miranda Right, 2013 (Dain).

Miranda Right was made in 2013, the artworks appearance connects with the time it was made, because it uses bright primary colors, for instance blue, pink and yellow, all present on the background. The composition of the drawing contributes to the contemporary appearance.

Dain does a lot of street art, mainly in Brooklyn, New York. Dain usually takes the face of a female glamour star and matches it to a body of a male. He then add a mixture of spray paint, bright color, graffiti and collage. Dain mostly commonly uses bits of ripped up magazine titles. Dain doesn’t make his artwork for a certain person, but for everyone in New York. His artwork is made for the public, because his artwork is presented on the streets of New York. Dain’s trademark is the circle with the drip.

In 2013 and presently women are presented by Hollywood and the media to be sex objects and weak. Dain in his artwork shows the views of graffiti as well as femininity of Hollywood subjects. This work shows the clear and common appearance of people, which live in a more economically developed country such as America. The bit of an image of jewelry, perhaps diamonds shows off the wealth of the country, it also supports the idea of diamonds being a girl’s best friend.

The artist doesn’t use any information for instance labels this makes the audience able to have a wider imagination of what’s happening in the piece of art work. The artwork’s, meaning isn’t influenced as much as it would with information (words present on the artwork.)

This work (Miranda Right) makes me almost feel quite serious, this is because the females face used is unemotional and has a serious nature to it. The work has a sense of humor because it almost appears that she is wearing bits of magazine’s and paper for clothing. I like this work because it has a unique and creative feeling. This piece of artwork reminds me of the fashion magazines and advertisement found in New York and other wealth countries, this is because of the way she is poising in the image.

Dain uses vivid primary colors, which represents peace and harmony. They illuminate the darkness and seriousness of the image. The placement of the colours is not organized, instead they are placed very messily, representing madness and almost conflict. The images is carved and ripped in sharp, pointed and smooth ways. I assume the texture of the work is quite bumpy, because of the layering effect. The size of the work was based around the location of where the artwork was going to be placed, in New York. The artwork size is 121.9 × 91.4 × 5.1 cm which is very large, this made it more noticeable to the public, as well as make his point clearer. I believe the focus point on this work, is the eyes of the female. This is indicated by Dain’s trademark, which is the circle with the drip, this is around the eye and almost suggest to target it.

I believe this artwork is impacting the world because it’s implying the negative representation of women. In addition, I also believe that the artwork is successfully appealing and makes the environment it’s placed at more visually appealing as well.
