Artist reseach: Silvia Pelissero.

Silvia Pelissero

Who created the artwork?

This artwork called “my right my faith” was created by Agnes Cecile also known as Silvia Pelissero. She was born in Rome, Italy in 1991 which was the year an earthquake stuck Italy. In the 1990’s many designers, artists and fashion gurus gathered in the Rome, they opened up galleries and shops. Rome was where Cecile lived, the fact that many artistic people gathered in Rome, could have been the reason she wanted to become an artist and it could have inspired, Cecile with her artwork.

Agnes Cecile is a self-taught artist but did study art at her high school, after high school she continued to develop her artistic skills. Agnes Cecile had a solo exhibition in Rome on the 04/05/2014, she also had a solo exhibition in Milan on the 23/11/2013. Agnes Cecile hasn’t had many exhibitions this because she is a young famous artist also because she has been using the internet to sell her artwork. Agnes Cecile gave away some of her painting to a charity to raise money this shows he is a goodhearted person this is probably the reason she uses bright colors.

Agnes Cecile’s artwork style changed from a bright appearance by her using brightly colored watercolors, to a darker based pieces of artwork by her using drip ink and only black watercolor. This could have been because of a negative change in her health or personal life, but nothing is recorded, so it’s unknown why she is producing darker pieces of artwork.

Agnes Cecile’s artwork (including the one I’m studying) features a half-drawn face sketch this is by her using ink to add detail and outline to darker parts of the face, this shows the facial feature more which therefore portrays the emotions of the artwork. Shadowing is added to the face with faded watercolors and smudging this creates a more realistic face. Agnes Cecile always deliberately allows her watercolors to drip or splatter from there margins. Most of the time Agnes Cecile likes to add smoke, butterflies and birds. Agnes Cecile works in an abstract style.

What are you looking at?

Firstly, the background is white. Slightly above the center of the artwork but apart, two eyes are placed looking forwards towards the audience both are drawn with black ink. Both of the eyes have white pupils and a black iris, which has a white shine north-west from the center of the iris. Above the eyes, shadowing is used to shows that the face is scowling. Around the outside of the eyes, small eyelashes are used.

Secondly, In-between the eyes and in the center of the artwork is where the nose is placed. The nose does not show the nostrils and below the tip of the nose is where shadowing is placed which is done by using black ink and purple watercolor. The nose has a white shine which starts at the-tip of the nose and fades along the dorsum, in till it reaches between the eyes which is where it stops. White shine is used on both the alaes on the nose. Pink, blue and purple watercolors are splashed around the eyes and nose and some is allowed to drip down from under the eyes and nose.

Formal elements used by the artist.

The form which is present in this piece of artwork is produced on a 40cm x 30cm white canvas board. It is a 2-Dimesional shape but Tone and shadowing is used to create to illusion that the artwork is 3-dimesional. The artwork features two fine lined triangles below the eyes and nose. Black circular shapes are used to represent the iris in the eyes.

The piece of artwork uses many lines for instance white contours are used shows that the nose is 3-dimesional and that below the eye it dips inwards. The lines in the artwork flow and are many circular this shows that the artist was happy and not tense as she would have drawn straight lines instead.
